About the Journal

Aims and Scope

The term "Broadcast" is undergoing a re-definition: Traditionally the term refers to the technology of transmitting a program from a single source to a locale of receivers which "tune in" and receive the content in real time. The dissemination and consumption of content is now increasingly complex. The user may receive content in real time or time shifted ; content derived from a number of sources and may be subject to re-use, re-distribution, etc, and subject to AI generation and utilisation.  Content may be professionally or user-generated, interactive, personalised based on metadata representing user profiles.

Content may also relate to gaming, multi-player gaming, gamification of scenarios and include the various forms of virtual, augmented and mixes of realities. Film, TV, gaming and all other media formats are converging and inter-reliant in a commercial eco-system including advertising.

The journal addresses production of content both from creative and editorial aspects, and also the technology of film, TV and all content production.  This includes the content delivery network technologies, coding and file format aspects and from the economics of the delivery chain and production facilities.

The engineering of content playout over all network technologies is addressed, including cable, satellite, Telco Internet Protocol TV (IPTV, including broadband networks), mobile networks (including 5G, 6G etc.), traditional digital TV distributions.

Standards are an important issue to ensure full global compatibility of content production, delivery and end-user services. These issues are addressed, including MPEG, SMPTE, ITU, ISO, and other standards bodies. Cultural and educational activities and applications are also covered.

The journal considers all of these options and is open to proposals to other broadcast-related services, content and usage.
