Intelligent Transportation Systems in Smart Cities

SCOPE:

Cities are engines of growth for the economy of any nation. As day by day urbanization and socio-economic status increases has resulted in the growth of vehicular traffic. This emphasizes on comprehensive developments of transportation infrastructure in cities. Hence, the smart cities emerge as solution for the development of user friendly smart infrastructure. The objective of smart cities to promote development of core infrastructure and give a decent quality of life to its citizens, a  sustainable and clean environment with the help of Smart Solutions. The main aim is on sustainable and inclusive development and the intension is to look at compact areas, develop a replicable model which will use as a lighthouse to other cities. This special issue will provides a platform for researchers to delve into the intricate dynamics of recent advancements in the transportation systems for smart cities. This initiative seeks to explore a diverse range of topics crucial to the evolution of intelligent transportation in smart cities. One focal point of interest lies in the realm of smart and intelligent transportation systems design, where innovative applications of transportation engineering principles are pivotal. Real-time monitoring of traffic is another cornerstone, with an emphasis on integrating sensors, IoT and ITS devices, and data analytics. These technologies enable the creation of early warning systems and predictive forecast of situation, fostering safer and congestion free urban transport environments. Additionally, the special issue encourages exploration of urban transportation management, addressing challenges unique to urban transport planning, such as application of emerging technologies like drone for real time traffic monitoring, reducing congestion and improving road safety. A significant facet of this endeavor involves the utilization of Intelligent Transportation Systems, including IoT, emerging technologies and smart traffic management systems, which contributing to development of sustainable transportation practices in smart cities. Intelligent Transportation in smart cities, employing methodologies ranging from ITS, IoT, drone technology to artificial intelligence, takes center stage, ensuring the continuous assessment of traffic and pedestrian movements. Moreover, the integration of data-driven models emerges as a crucial area, facilitating optimized designs and informed decision-making in safe and sustainable transportation in smart cities.
